How To Measure Your Real Rock® Order

To get the right quantity of Real Rock® for your project there are 2 important measurements that you should learn: Flat Pieces and Corners. Each job will have its own unique mix of flats and corners, so be sure to “measure twice” so we only “cut once.”

Measurements for Flat Pieces

A flat piece of Real Rock® Natural Thin Stone Veneer, as it sounds, covers any flat surface of your project. Please review the graphic below for a visual example of measuring for flats.

To get started, calculate the area of each section of your project in square feet and add all those sections together to get your total flat order.

For square or rectangular sections, simply multiply the length of the section (in feet) and multiply it by the width. It’s that easy. Length x Width = Area.

For triangular sections, the calculation is slightly different (see graphic above). First measure the “base” or the bottom of the triangle, then measure the height of the triangle. To get the area, divide the base by 2, then multiply by it’s height. The formula is: (Base / 2) x Height = Area.

Important Note: Doors and windows in the middle of a section should be subtracted from the total square footage of your order — since you obviously don’t want to cover your doors and windows!

To subtract doors, windows or other non-covered sections from your surface, calculate the area of the non-covered section and subtract it from the total square footage of the section.

For squares, rectangles and triangles, use the formulas listed above. For a circle, measure the diameter of the circle, divide that number by 2 (to get the radius), then multiply the radius times itself (r2) then multiply the product by pi (π = 3.14).

So the formula for a cirlce is π*r2.

Measurements for Corner Pieces

A corner piece of Real Rock® Natural Thin Stone Veneer, as it sounds, covers any corners of your project. Please review the graphic below for a visual example of measuring linear feet for corner pieces.

A corner piece of Real Rock® Natural Thin Stone Veneer is an ‘L-shaped’ piece that will cover any area of your home that creates a traditional 90 degree corner.

Measure  in a straight line from the base of the corner to the top of the corner where your rock installation will stop (see diagram above).

Important Note: Corner pieces DO NOT cover inverted corners. They cover areas that meet to form an outward edge. Inverted corners do not require a special cut of Real Rock®. For inverted corners, the flats meet to create the corner.
